“To put it simply, true freedom is not about selecting how to live out the script handed to you. It’s writing your own script in the first place.”

Such a great post. Thanks so much.

Also love that you referenced Lao Tzu. The heart of Daoism is ziran… the most natural, free, spontaneous, uninhibited version of a thing as it is in and of itself. This is what we long for, right? The place we wanna all wanna go deep down inside.

I find the different stages humans go through really fascinating. Having to reach an "independent" stage by embracing our suffering. Then reaching a more "interdependent" stage by consolidating everything else. I've only recently had the chance to explore the concept of Dao and find a lot of resonance with achieving the interdependent stage. It really is quite beautiful.

At the end of the day, we want our eyes to be fully open and our heart fully acknowledged. Self love is important but beyond self love there's also the need to be accepted by others too, right? Even if "others" is just one other person.

Another succinct summary here, Chusana. Thank you! I re-read Allegory of the Cave after a vivid dream years ago that mirrored the storyline. That was the beginning of my (real) life.

That's really fascinating, Elizabeth. It sounds like your inner self was already trying to pull you out of the shadows before your mind can consciously articulate it! I think it goes to show how our truths are really just buried deep inside us all along. If you don't mind sharing, what were some of the things that 'woke' you and what did you start doing/thinking/seeing differently after?
