I couldn’t agree more. It's crucial to speak up against such inappropriate and disgusting behaviours. I aim to expand my knowledge and join forces with you and others to prevent and protect those with less power from being exploited by adults. Let's create a safe and supportive environment where everyone feels empowered to speak up. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Tam, I think we've already joined force on this front! And I love that you've taken up this journey with me - honestly, it makes me feel less alone in this fight. One of the things you're great at is making people feel at ease... an incredible power that people often overlook.
Baby Reindeer was a heavy watch that Neeti and I pushed through to finish within the same weekend. It was dark and intensely emotional, and the fact that it was based on the actor's own life experience, it shook me even more. Bravo to Richard Gadd for telling his story like it is - raw and disturbing, but I'm a huge fan of people normalising (or desensitising!) publicly speaking out about their traumatic experience. It is more common than we think, and it can happen to anyone of us.
Even for myself, I have been in numerous occasions of inappropriate sexual advances by people who were older and seemingly in more 'powerful' positions. It's about time these disgusting behaviours are called out more, and that the victims don't get shamed by society for speaking up.
I kindly ask you to watch 'AFTERSUN,' a film that delves into the experience of a man who grapples with childhood trauma, inadvertently passing it on to his daughter despite recognizing his actions and feeling powerless to halt the cycle. The narrative unfolds along these lines.
Wow, thanks for the recommendation. Watched it last night and was blown away. There were a lot of really notable details on how depression can be played out in a short span of time. How each of his behaviour can be 'overlooked' if viewed as a single incident. I'm sad that depression is a struggle that still has 'shame' attached to it. Makes it that much harder to ask for help.
I have, so far, enjoyed all of A24's creations I've watched so far. The Whale was pretty heavy (directed by Darren Aronofsky so cinematography was wonderfully done) and touched on fatherly guilt, self hate, shame, depression and everything in between. Generational trauma done right, I would say "Everything Everywhere All At Once" is my favourite so far.

I can't wait to hear your thoughts about the Baby Reindeer Netflix series.

Excellent read! Everyone has trauma in their life. As a parent, I'd like to pass on as little as possible to my children.
If most parents are conscious like you, the world would be a much better place.
wonderful, thank you for this!
Thank you, Dom!
